Painted floorboards can look simple from the top. Underneath, there may be original floorboards, replacement boards, old filler, stains, pet marks, nail holes, previous sanding or a thin engineered wear layer. That is why the first job is not to start sanding. It is to understand what the floor is made from and what the paint may be hiding.
