The safest way to clean a wool rug is gently. Use dry vacuuming, careful spot treatment, minimal moisture and slow, controlled drying. Avoid hot water, bleach, ammonia, scrubbing, soaking and steam cleaning, as these can damage wool fibres, affect dyes, cause shrinkage or leave the rug slow to dry.
Light care at home can help keep your wool rug clean between professional cleans. A proper deep clean is different. Some wool rugs are better cleaned off-site, where dust removal, rinsing, extraction and drying can be controlled more carefully.
